listening to this mix takes me back to the last time i remember hearing it, driving around SE Wisconsin flipping the cassette to hear the other side AGAIN. for at least 3 months, this was the soundtrack to my mobile existence in 1995.
i connected to this music with a natural immediacy, exploring the depths and the potential for these nameless tunes helping me transcend this plane of those grey flannel spaces of days between warehousing my weekeends away. . dancing darkly to these beats , I glimpsed the near infinite possibilities when the mind body heart in time stir it up with the sex and drugs and rock and rhyme
to the wayback machine, mr. peabody, when all elements of sound were sifted gently into this sonic bouillabaisse and drums...
there was room for everyone and everything... : jazzs, raps, metals, raggas, teknos, classics and soul.... you can't stop me from loving you..
i assumed the dj brought his arsenal from/to all bins. not like those "other" selectors, blinding themselves with empty light of the "genre" aisle.
my feet are floating centimeters above the concrete but my head is orbiting with the soundtrack of the future. thank you nostalgia.
ps... chatted with monsieur jellybean within this past year in milwaukee at a funky step party called the "Get Down" held twice a month at a local tavern in the Riverwurst neighborhood. he was quite humble and very flattered to hear that his art touched many people from the shadows and the corners. RESPECT!
I know myself when I hear you. |

It was 1995. I lived (and still do) in Oklahoma City, OK. Through a local Dj here named DJ Love (http://www.stellarmusic.com) I was hurled into sonic breakbeats sped up in excess of 150BPM's.
I was shown labels and this glorious new culture spewing over from the UK. I followed all these labels as best as I could with only one records tore here and some rather sparce distributors, I followed it as best I could.
Through the only record store we had a 'zine fell in my lap. IT was called "Junglized." In it were field reports form other cities in the US of other local guys like me who caught the fever.
I made a mail order from Dubshack in Chicago, among them was an Atmopshere magazine, a couple records and this very tape.
Me and my homies rinsed this tape so hard that it wouldnt play right anymore. Everyrone wanted copies.
I held on to it and I left it in one of my Exes cars around 1996 or so. I never talked with her again and this tape was gone forever.
I would always ask a few freinds in the DnB scene if they could get me copies or dub it for me. Everyone knew of it, but didnt have it.
AT LAST. I can pop it in my ipod and brockout in traffic. =D |

Big ups to the original Chicago jungle dons like JJ Jellybean and Phantom 45. Nothing but love going out to these two for pushing the jungle sound when very few promoter even wanted to give this genre a chance. I see Brian (Phantom 45) all the time and I have actually played some events with him. He was the first guy to sell me my first jungle tracks back in 94 when he was working at a record store called HOT JAMS...one of the coolest and most humble guys you will ever meet. In this day of big contracts and bigger ego's this man is totally in it for his fans and the music...Big up and nuff respect going out to all junglist worldwide. |

anybody know if that opening cut on the P45 side is a DJ Crystl cut? Has that same flavor of the Angels in Dub rmx played at +7.
regardless, i gotta know what it is... fuck that... tracklist for the P45 side? any help is appreciated even if the selector hiself can't offer any. 45 minutes of fire.
If I had a time machine, I'd go back to 94 and live in the midwest till 97. This mix is why. |

I love this site ... Lord knows I am way too lazy to dig up my tapes and convert them to MP3s; if the tapes even sound any good and if I can even find a working tape player around here. Love this mix ... brings me back to such simpler times. Rock on wit yer badness, Phantom and JJ. |

Yo guys. I'm a South African Junglist and I've been spinning these P45 and JJJ tunes since I got them last year. Big up. And thank you for keeping those of us far from the center informed. Forver keep the Jungle massive.

...YES! man, JJ's mix is one of my top five of all time (no joke) mixes of any genres... and, until this website, i had no idea who actually did it... for the longest i thought it was Phantom because i had a dub of a dub of a dub, etc...
...no disrespect to Phatom, but jj brought it here...when top cat blows, it sends it over the top!
much respect!!!
one.
